Crystal Girl A Play  by Jina Bacarr Hey, gang, here are some scenes from my new play, CRYSTAL GIRL. It's the story of Malllory Martin, a wannabe  Prom Queen who sells her soul to the devil to get thin.                 The Campus of Malibu High School.                                   Today.

	DEVA    Do you want to get thin and win Prom Queen?   Thin and win?     I'm the chick who will have you  stylin' before you can say Beelzebub Bubble Gum.     Take this pill if you will and lose a pound a day.  You'll be on your way!

DUCHESS   (far left)   Whatcha doin', Mallory?  Talking to your dream guy?       DEVA  (in red)   Tell her you're studying.       MALLORY    I'm, uh, studying, Duchess.  Ever tried it?      DUCHESS  (insulted)   Only geeks study, Mallory.    (She exits.)   .  MALLORY (to DEVA)   Wow!  She couldn't see you!

DEVA    Are you ready to join my team, Mallory?         MALLORY     What guarantee do I have that I'll get thin enough to win  Prom Queen?         DEVA    You have my word and I'm no nerd.

KINDRA     I know you've gone way beyond diet pills and you're using hard drugs.  You're going to turn into the skinniest, ugliest girl in the school--         MALLORY    I can handle it.         KINDRA    Yeah?  Look what drugs did to my mother.  It's too late to save her, but you...you've gotta stop.

DEVA    You gotta have tweaker spirit, Mallory.  Cut loose.  Insert your quarter, sit back, and enjoy the ride.

 

MALLORY      (Frantic.)    Keep counting, Kindra.  It's not midnight yet.       KINDRA      (Counting slowly.)    Eight-hundred sixty-two, eight hundred sixty-three--

 
 

KINDRA            (Anxiously.)    And now the moment everyone's waited for.   With a total of  865 votes, the Prom Queen of this year's Senior Class is--

I was borderline anorexic--and I lost more weight!  I was totally thin--and unhealthy.

People often ask me why I wrote "CRYSTAL GIRL"        Simple.            I was Mallory in high school...then I became too thin through dieting, etc.       before I found the right way to eat and live my life.

 
 

Here I am today writing my next book.  I still watch my weight, but I eat right now and exercise.

isten up!  THE WORLD OF SUZY IQ AND CRYSTAL GIRL website was a recipient of a   Certificate of Merit PRISM Award given at an awards ceremony   at CBS Studios in May, 2002 for our community service   in helping teens fight against drug abuse.   PBS, Disney, Fox, and HBO were also being honored by the   EIC (Entertainment Industries Counil), the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation,   and the National Institute on Drug Abuse .  We hit the big-time!
