| Okay,
so you know 'bout eating disorders like bulimia and anorexia. But
did ya know you can also die of heart failure? That's what
happened
to a ballet dancer who tried to lose weight and developed an eating
disorder.
Yikes!
And
if you are bulimic, you have 7 million sistas out there!
Can
you believe?
|
| The
totally ugly side of bulimia: it rots your teeth. Yuk!! |
|
 |
So,
here's the deal:EDs are bugging us.
You,
too?
Here's what we
think 'bout
way serious stuff like if you think you may have an Eating Disorder.
Remember, these
are only
our opinions -- you make up your own mind.
Suzy IQ:
A megabig YES! 'Zines, TV, even the guys I
date ALL
make me feel like I'm fat 'cause my thighs are not the size of a shrimp.
Vibe:
Right on, Suzy. I went on my first diet when I was eleven because
this boy I liked called me gorda. Fat. You never
forget
those things.
High-FIve:
Get your boogie on, girl! You have no
prob. I've,
like, always been too tall, too big. Like a basketball in a game
of ping pong. Black may be beautiful, but big ain't.
|
| Did
you weigh yourself today? I did and I hated what it said.
"Suzy IQ Thought for the Day": I bet the first scale was invented by a
man. A man in the advertising business!
Our bods change in diff ways than in other times -- you probably got
your
first period 'round 11 or 12. Girls in the earty 19th
century
(and probably even in the time of Shakespeare's Juliet, too) didn't
start
'till they were 15 or 16! Can you imagine -- Juliet fell in
love, had fab sex and sweet surrender before she had her first period.
In the 1890s
a girl's waist was supposed to be no larger than her age.
(Sweet 16
=
16 "
waist).
Peace,
sistas!

411:
Word up, you guys! I can't even find clothes
to fit
'cept in the kids' dept. I'll never be totally
cool.
I'll always look like a dork 'cause I don't look like the models in the
'zines.
Suzy
IQ: I guess
we' re total foolios
to
think we can change them. So do we change us?
High-Five:
So, like, you mean how far
will
we go to get thin?
Vibe:
I fasted for three days once. I didn't lose any weight. It
all came back when my Mom made me eat mucho food 'cause
I,
like, passed out.
High-Five:
I want to be
a model.
I'll have to diet 24/7/365. It's way hard.
411:
I exercise a lot, but I'm awful at dieting. I get so
hungry!
Vibe:
How 'bout you, Suzy IQ? How far would you go
to get
thin?
Suzy
IQ: I
don't
know ...and not knowing is what scares me.
